Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met. 

First of all, if you haven't read this book yet go get yourself some Oreos and a glass of milk because Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda will have you craving these.

The story revolves around Simon, a 16-year-old boy who knows that he is gay, but does not want to tell anyone, he prefers to keep the drama for the theater club at his school.

But when a mail falls into the wrong hands, your secret runs the risk of coming to light. Simon becomes blackmailed: he has to play matchmaker to unite Martin, the clown of the class, with Abby, his best friend... otherwise, Martin will make his secret public.

The acidic and ironic humor of Simon makes the novel very pleasant; his friends -Leah, Nick, and Abby - are also part of this humor and have all the same.

This book plays with the heterosexual and homosexual roles at the time of "coming out of the closet", affirming that it is not something necessary, or looking at it from the other side, as something that we should all do.

"Why is straight the default? Everyone should have to declare one way or another, and it shouldn't be this big awkward thing whether you're straight, gay, bi, or whatever. I'm just saying."

The couple of Simon (a.k.a. Jacques) and Blue is the tenderest of the story. Seriously, their relationship is very well done, it's so healthy, so sincere and the writer really knows it's transmitted.

"The way I feel about him is like a heartbeat – soft and persistent, underlying everything."

This book provoked me many things but above all, it made me very happy. Yes, I finished the book with a big smile, although I wanted more (those who had already read it knows why…). It's a book that I recommend to everyone.
